Dental health care awareness analysis in Canada and the need for exceptional oral care

A detailed study was done to explore clinical information about the dental treatment needs of Canadians that were ignored for almost four decades. The study and the analysis conducted with enormous data showed that an estimated 12 million Canadians had unmet dental treatment needs, with five million requiring severe dental treatment. It was also quite shocking to find that 26 % of the population found preventive dental procedures unaffordable and were reluctant to visit dentists due to high costs. Hamilton Mountain Dental Group, one of the best dentistry in the country, however, believes in providing affordable solutions for dental needs. Review how dentists are now focused on providing quality treatment for the needy, sacrificing their glitzy and high profile urban life for a serene countryside dentistry practice. The rural side dentistry provides the dentists with the privilege of practising their profession purely for their passions, unlike the urban dental practices that are mostly insurance and income-driven. This article intends to shed some light on the oral health needs of Canadians and an in-depth analysis of population that do not take oral health seriously

Dental health care among Canadians
The surveys which revealed a shocking percentage of the population that had unmet dental treatment needs, attributed infrequent visits to the dentists due to high costs of dental treatment, the anxiety of potential pain and fear of being judged by their poor oral health. As the last known clinical data on oral health needs of Canadian citizens was conducted in 1970/72, there arose a dire need to identify the health needs of the population to devise development and planning programs. Canada‘s dental services are primarily controlled by the private sector that works on a fee for service basis. The privatization of dental services has compelled the citizens to mobilize their income and insurance towards dental treatments, and their dental treatments largely depend on that rather than the actual need. The current situation poses a significant challenge for low-income groups who keep their dental concerns to themselves to avoid high consultation costs. Hence, it has become imperative for the policymakers to determine the need for population and devise new policies to modify their current approaches to dental care with proper treatments. The studies conducted as the part of dental treatment analysis gave a clear picture to the authorities about the actual treatment needs.

What conclusions were made with the study?
An enormous amount of data was collected and analyzed for results. The studies that were conducted to measure the oral care status of the population and the existing dental treatment inequalities is considered as a great beginning to establish a database for clinical monitoring of oral health. This data is critical to predicting any impending burden the oral disease can bring about and also devise policies that would guide the right oral treatment to the needy. WHO also recommends conducting oral health surveys every 5 to 6 years to determine the oral health treatment for the deserving persons.
